Camp Journal: 10 may 2022

Image
Wow! I haven't posted here since 2013. Time to rectify that. I've started "solo" camping and am taking the opportunity to try Journaling. As luxurious as an Airstream. Whenever I pulled out the sketchbook on this earlier trip, I felt pretty self-conscious. My last trip...over Memorial Day...I kind of got into a grove and was having fun. The biggest "improvement" this time was not worrying about being Masterful. (It was about amusing myself.) Best case? Someone out there (besides me) will be amused by these upcoming posts...or at minimum will be encouraged to pull out one of their lonely (mostly empty) sketchbooks, too. X-ray view: note the "Lizard Lounge."

Day 3 - getting the feel of the paints again (on the last day of course) Day 2 - very "architectural" (but oh, how I loved all those lines and shadows when I chose this view!) Day 1 - yes, it's VERY timid Finally got the transparent watercolors out for our 3-day beach stay. (It's just way too easy for me to fuss over and to re-work the opaques to death.) The sand was gorgeous (of course) but, alas, the Emerald Coast was more of an Olive Coast this time.

Attention Watercolor Escape-Artists...

Plein air: Las Vegas in June, in the shade, next to a pool. NOTE: The above mini (4"x6") was painted with transparent colors.

On the Beach

From a somewhat impromptu beach vacation three weeks ago. Not my best, but at least the brush was moving over paper...Golly, painting waves from photographs (not to mention storm clouds) is so-o-o much easier!

Took a well-deserved "spring break" and drove to a lovely neighborhood nearby.
